What's that great quote about volleyball?

It's always 70 degrees inside. It takes about an hour and there are never any rainouts.

Visiting Libertyville entered Wednesday's night's North Suburban Conference opener at Stevenson with an 8-1 record and on a seven-match winning streak.

Everybody's phone alarm went off at the same time. Tornado warnings. Huh?

Everyone in the gym was told to exit. The teams hustled to the locker rooms. One set was played, and the host Patriots won that one.

The match was postponed.

Before that happened, Stevenson sophomore Amanda Holsen continued to show she can put the ball away.

The first set was tied at 6-6 when Stevenson senior Abby Keevins went into serve. Varsity-rookie Holsen notched a pair of kills, veteran Lilly Cozzi put down another two, and Emma Potacki notched a block to stretch the Stevenson lead to 13-7.

That evidently awakened the visitors. Libertyville standout Kelli Hopper made her presence felt, as her kill pulled the Wildcats within 22-19.

Stevenson prevailed 25-22 behind Holsen's 6 kills.
