Noida: An FIR has been filed against an "unknown" cop for causing death by negligence after a 35-year-old man died of heart attack minutes after being stopped by a traffic policeman.

"We filed a written complaint at the Indirapuram police station on Tuesday about misbehaviour by the traffic cop. We were wearing seat belts and my son, who was behind the wheel, was not speeding. There was no reason to bang on the car's bonnet with a stick to stop the vehicle and ask for papers," Moolchand Sharma, father of the deceased, Gaurav Sharma, told TOI.

The family is in Haridwar to perform the last rites. After returning, they will help police identify the cop. Police had said they will hold an identification parade with traffic cops from Noida and Ghaziabad who were deployed near the spot - the CISF cut near Indirapuram police station area - that day.

"An FIR has been lodged against an unknown traffic cop under Section 304a (causing death by negligence) of the IPC ... It has come to light that there was negligence on part of some traffic cops. I have initiated an inquiry, which is being conducted by the SP (traffic). The next course of action will depend on the outcome of both investigations," Ghaziabad SSP Sushir Kumar Singh said.

Gaurav Sharma, who worked as an executive in the business and sales department of a business consultancy and advisory company in Sector 136, was on Sunday travelling from Noida to Ghaziabad with his parents when the incident happened.
