Troopers in District 5, which includes Grundy, Kendall and Will counties, answered 815 calls for service and initiated 2,769 incidents in the field during the month.

In addition, enforcement figures totaled 2,291 citations and 1,222 written warnings, including 1,395 speeding citations, 40 DUIs, 101 seatbelt citations, 17 child restraint citations, 73 distracted diving citations, 248 written warnings for speeding and 32 criminal arrests.

Troopers also assisted 370 motorists, conducted 440 Motor Carrier Inspections and investigated 306 traffic crashes. There were three fatal traffic crashes, resulting in three fatalities, investigated by District 5 during August.

State police also announced the results of the statewide Saturation Saturday campaign, which took place Saturday, Aug. 24.

During the 10-hour enforcement period, ISP troopers arrested and removed 70 intoxicated drivers from Illinois roadways, with five at more than twice the .08 legal limit. Troopers also made 375 arrests for other offenses, including open alcohol, possession of drugs and warrants.

Saturation Saturday is a statewide initiative with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, and increase enforcement to remove and arrest individuals driving under the influence. Troopers across the state joined county and local law enforcement agencies to increase enforcement during the evening hours of Aug. 24 and early morning hours of Aug. 25.
