(Newser) - Chattanooga, Tennessee's Central High School was having issues with tardiness, but the way it dealt with those issues is not going over well. According to a graduate of the school whose sister still attends it, the bathroom mirrors were painted over. "Even prisons have mirrors," wrote Shelby Campbell alongside a picture of the painted-over mirrors. "School isn't supposed to be miserable." A rep for Hamilton County School District tells News Channel 9 that an administrator at the school directed a worker to paint over the mirrors because students spend too much time in the bathroom when they should be in class, but the school has since apologized.
Campbell's mother filed a formal complaint with the district last week, and Campbell tells WKRN the principal sent a school-wide voicemail and email apologizing and saying the paint had been removed. "Being able to walk in and make sure nothing is in your teeth or make sure your hair isn't crazy, so you can walk out confidently, is important because there's already so much going on with bullying and self-image problems in high school," she says. (At another high school, a controversy over a "suit wedgie.")
