WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- Republican State Senator Tom Tiffany will make stops around the state this week announcing he's running for Congress in the 7th Congressional District.

Tiffany confirmed the news by email Tuesday morning.

"I don't plan to go to Washington looking for a fight, but I can guarantee I will never back down from one. Now more than ever we need to stand up to preserve our freedoms and our bedrock values. As we all know, it's a swamp out there and we need someone who won't waver when it comes to doing what is right for Wisconsin," Tiffany stated.

The seat will be vacated by Congressman Sean Duffy.

Tiffany told NewsChannel 7 he's qualified to fill the seat because of the work he's already been involved when it comes to federal issues, like our forests. He said it's also important to him to keep the 7th district, republican.

Congressman Duffy's last day will be Sept. 23. It's up to Gov. Tony Evers to decide when the special election will be held.
